Plate VIThe receptorome, and what else got measured

Targets

D
Derived here from the stored measurement

970 distinct targets appear in the archive’s assay records. They are not all the same kind of thing: a Ki at 5-HT2A and an IC₅₀ against a liver cell line are different measurements about different objects. They are sorted here by explicit rule; the patterns, and the order they are applied in, are listed under how targets are sorted.

Molecular targets

Receptors, transporters, channels and enzymes — targets where a measured value carries an affinity or potency interpretation, and where a compound’s rosette can be drawn.

Serotonin receptors 26

5-HT receptor subtypes.

Dopamine receptors 6

D1–D5 receptor subtypes.

Adrenergic receptors 17

α and β adrenoceptors.

Cholinergic receptors 19

Muscarinic and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.

Opioid receptors 9

μ, δ, κ and nociceptin receptors.

Monoamine transporters 4

SERT, DAT, NET and vesicular transporters.

Glutamate receptors 15

NMDA, AMPA, kainate and metabotropic receptors.

Sigma receptors 3

σ1 and σ2 binding sites.

Histamine receptors 2

H1–H4 receptor subtypes.

GABA receptors 10

GABA-A and GABA-B receptors.

Cannabinoid receptors 4

CB1 and CB2.

Adenosine receptors 4

A1, A2A, A2B, A3.

Trace amine receptors 2

TAAR family.

Ion channels 21

Voltage- and ligand-gated channels, including the TRP family and hERG (KCNH2).

Drug transporters 16

SLC and ABC transporters governing uptake and efflux — distinct from the monoamine transporters.

Nuclear receptors 15

Steroid and other ligand-activated transcription factors.

Other named receptors 69

A named receptor outside the families above. The catch-all is explicit rather than silent: these are receptors, but they are not grouped.

Enzymes 249

Named enzymes, including the metabolising cytochromes and the monoamine oxidases.

Everything else

Cell lines, whole organisms, tissue preparations, and records ChEMBL left without a named target. Measurements against these are real and are shown on each compound’s page — they are simply not affinities, so they are kept out of the affinity views rather than quietly averaged into them.

Unclassified 333

Matched no rule. Shown as-is rather than assigned a class by guesswork.

ADMET screens 1

Assay records ChEMBL labels as ADMET rather than naming a target.

Organisms 71

Whole-organism screens (antiparasitic, antibacterial, antiviral).

Non-protein target 1

ChEMBL's own label for assays with no protein target assigned.

Cell lines 64

Phenotypic screens. A value here is a cellular response, not a binding affinity.

Tissue and matrix 9

Preparations such as liver microsomes or whole blood.
